Google Ads is an auction-based system. Every time someone searches a keyword, advertisers bid to show up in the sponsored results. But bid alone doesn't decide who wins. Google multiplies your bid by a Quality Score (measuring how relevant and useful your ad is to the searcher) to calculate Ad Rank. High quality ads can outrank higher-bidding competitors and pay less per click to do it. The practical implication: winning isn't about having the biggest budget, it's about building relevant ads, strong landing pages, and tight keyword strategy that earns you cheaper clicks than your competitors.
Google Ads works best when there's existing search demand for what you sell, people actively typing in queries that match your product or service. If you run a plumbing business, an ecommerce store, a B2B software product, or any category where buyers search before they buy, Google Ads is usually one of the highest-ROI channels available.
